The saga continues and it looks like it will last for a while longer. People are sequestered in their homes and cabin fever prevails. So how come so many of us have been asking for a break in our hectic busy lives and now that we have some time to relax at home, we are getting restless?
I believe it is time to reconnect with our quiet spiritual side. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.” Truth is we have been so busy living that we have forgotten about creating a life. This verse tells us very clearly to focus on God, think only about God and expect only God and all will be taken care of for us.
We remember that Jesus tells us a very similar thing in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you.” It is interesting to me that we are being forced into this time of solitude to do just that. “Be still and know that I am God.” So instead of worrying, fretting, and freaking out about what we are going to do, maybe it is time to “Be still and know that I am God.”
This is one of the reasons that most religions and spiritual philosophies emphasize the need for meditation and stillness as part of our day. Just sitting quietly and being thankful for life can be soul changing. Looking for the good instead of dwelling on the problems can actually mitigate the effect of the problems in our lives. Th ego self tries to convince us that sitting quietly is a waste of time that we should be using some kind of action to do something about our plight. Stay busy, busy, busy is the strategy that we are told will produce results. My question is: how’s that working for you?
The Universe, I believe, is sending us a message to slow down and begin learning how to reconnect with the Source of all our good. Problem is, we are still moving through life at hyper speed because that is what we have learned to do. Stop and look around you. Take 10 minutes a few times a day to look at the good things in your life. Just sit quietly in a chair, close your eyes and do nothing. If your thoughts come raging in, which they will, decide to remember a good time like a vacation, a good meal you had, birth of a child, a good memory. Focusing on good things is focusing on the God within us.
