It is Fathers’ Day we are celebrating this weekend and we are also aware that we have a brand-new federal holiday called Juneteenth that celebrates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers brought the message of freedom to enslaved black people in Galveston.
Paul says in his second letter to Timothy (written from prison) “I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and good discipline”. A wonderful reminder that we are expressing the Christ Self in all our comings and goings and no matter how things look in the material world, God’s perfect pattern is at work in our lives.
We have experienced an amazing year. Pandemic lockdown, fear of disease, wondering when things would return to normal, separation from family and loved ones and yes, a year of racial and cultural division. These are all experiences and events in the fabric of time in the material world that scream for our attention. These are also the times to “stir up” the gift of God which is in us: To remember that all is well in God’s Kingdom. To know that truly, “The Father and I are One.” To let go and let the Divinity that we are do the work without our intervention.
We acknowledge that there is only One Power and Presence in the Universe. Each of us is that Divine Presence in Its Allness, expressing Itself into our physical world. We are the carriers of God’s love, peace, abundance, health, and the other gifts of Spirit as we manifest them into our material experience through our thoughts, feelings, words and actions.
We are the power to overcome the ravages of fear, uncertainty and doubt for ourselves and those around us. It is up to us to “stir up the gift of God which is in us” and bring forth the energies of love and discipleship into our daily lives. It is time, I believe to really know that the famous words of Jesus are true for each of us: “The Father within, He doeth the work.” In the material world there are no real answers to the issues we experience. The real answers are within as we let go, give up our control and know that God is good, and all is well. The Kingdom for all answers is within. We are loved and guided by a loving presence that goes before us to make the way straight. That is the promise that unfolds for us when we follow a spiritual path consistently and faithfully.
