The last verse of the 23rd Psalm says: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Then we read in Matt. 7:14 that Jesus tells us: “ ..narrow is the door and difficult is the way which leads unto life and few there be that find it.”
Sounds almost like a contradiction. Maybe King David, when he wrote this, was showing us the secret to finding the House of the Lord and Jesus was just telling us that we must be diligent in finding and opening the door inner door to our own Kingdom of Heaven.
I believe the opening statement in the 23rd Psalm is the key to our search for the spiritual path. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want,” Is a clear statement of faith on David’s part. He’s not hoping and wishing. He is not saying maybe if the stars align. He is not saying if anything happens in the physical world. He is saying that he knows he will be taken care of and that all is well because he is a child of the Divine.
Jesus is telling us, I believe, that it is not easy to have complete faith and trust that we are each a child of God and that we will be guided and directed in life when we enter the realm of our Inner Self and honor the Christ that we are. This is the narrow door and difficult path that Jesus was sharing with us. The Kingdom we are searching for is already present. (Within.)
We are loved and appreciated unconditionally. Open the door to the House of the Lord within.
