“Out of the same mouth proceed curses and blessings. This ought not be.” James 3:10
James, brother of Jesus, tells us very clearly that we cannot be two sided in our beliefs. Jesus told us in Matt. 12:34 “For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.” We know the heart symbolizes our inner most beliefs or in today’s understanding, our subconscious mind. Jesus goes on in Matt. 12:37 and says, “For by your words shall you be justified, and by your words shall you be found guilty.”
Pretty strong language telling us to speak only loving and supporting words in our everyday conversations or not speak at all. This certainly gives us second thoughts about the phrase, “idle conversations.” Every word we speak has a creative affect in the universe, so it might be important for us to stop and think about the outcome that is created by the words we use. Are they loving and supportive or corrosive and debilitating?
We are here as representatives of the divinity that created the universe. Are we creating our part in seeing love and peace in the world by the words we use?
