Easter is a holiday on the Christian calendar that calls for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus the Christ. The exact date and time of the month is lost to history but the Council of Nicea in 324AD decided that it would be the Sunday after the first moon after the spring equinox and that tradition has survived through our present day.
The preceding Sunday is called Palm Sunday, the day that the Jews welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem. Five days later, on what is called Good Friday, Jesus was crucified, basically because he shared ideas that ran counter to the beliefs of the political and religious authorities of the time.
No matter what you believe about Jesus, history has shared the outcomes of His teachings, and at Easter we celebrate with joy His life and strategies for living a spiritual and happy life. He spoke of forgiveness, love, faith, trust, speaking good of others, encouraging us as children of God and a light in the world. He performed miracles in our material world and overcame the ultimate fear that we experience, death. Maybe we should study and follow His teachings and words.
I believe the celebration of Easter is a time for great joy. We are following the teachings and example of a man that overcame most of the daily troubles we experience and then told us that we could do the same things. That is someone to listen to and get to know.
This week is a time to leave behind the woes, problems, and negative influences of the world we live in. Time to listen to our Way-shower, Jesus the Christ, who tells us to take no thought and to forgive 70 times 7 and to follow the inner guidance that we call the Holy Spirit.
It is not a time to remember doom and gloom. It is a time to wake up to the promise of the Christ and live life with joy, fun, and the inspiration of overcoming. We remember that the Kingdom of Heaven is within each of us. We rejoice and are exceedingly glad.
